Colonel’s Kahlúa & Cream Cocktail with Bourbon

An irresistible twist on the classic Kahlúa & Cream cocktail. Who needs spiked eggnog when you can have coffee, cream and bourbon in an icy-cold satisfying holiday cocktail? Included is our recipe for Dairy-Free Half & Half Cream that when made into this cocktail will knock your socks off. The perfect rich and sweet cocktail to ring in the New Year!

Can you believe it is now the end of the year and, in a matter of hours, we will be ushering in the New Year, 2014? Neither can I! Just where did the year go? I don’t know about you, but my head is still spinning over this fact.

Now, without delay, let me quickly tell you about this special cocktail, Colonel’s Kahlúa & Cream, so you can run and go make it to ring in the New Year!

The Colonel, as in Colonel Albert B. Blanton of Blanton’s® Bourbon, has got one over The Dude. I know! I can hear you now. Who could ever have one over our beloved Dude? Just here me out The Big Lebowski fans before you declare blasphemy. I adore The Dude and his love for the White Russian cocktail, indulged no matter the time of day. Really, I do! But, in my book, bourbon will always win hands down over vodka. Always. In fact, last year during the holidays, my cocktail of choice was our Pumpkin Pie Martini, made with Blanton’s® Bourbon, Baileys® Irish Cream and Frangelico®. During the blizzard that hit Indianapolis last winter just after Christmas, I felt like Jeff Bridges, as Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski, walking around in my robe sipping on Pumpkin Pie Martini cocktails in the middle of the day. True story, embarrassing as it is.

Anyone who knows me well will tell you about my love and adoration for coffee, coffee ice cream and Blanton’s Bourbon. Jim Murray, in his Whisky Bible, voted Blanton’s Original Single Barrel Bourbon as “Liquid Gold.” And, I couldn’t agree more. I have been absolutely smitten with this bourbon since 1992 when I read about Blanton’s in Bon Appétit magazine when The Big Lug and I were living in Lexington, Kentucky. Since then, we both enjoy sipping this bourbon and even incorporate it into mixed drinks. Call us crazy. We don’t care!

Here at Wicked Good Kitchen, we hope you enjoy this newly created cocktail of ours. (We searched and searched online and could not find a cocktail incorporating Kahlúa, cream and bourbon. I know. Crazy, right?) However, our recipe for Colonel’s Kahlúa & Cream comes with a warning.

WARNING: Do not drink this cocktail casually thinking Kahlúa is a coffee syrup. Don’t be like me. Remember that it is indeed a liqueur!

I don’t know about you, but I am a silly drunk. I get all giddy and laugh at anything. After imbibing in just two of these cocktails (they are strong with more spirit than mixer), I was chatting up how exceptional they were, asking for another and had The Big Lug cracking up. I remember him saying that I had my “silly pants” on, but I don’t remember much of what I said after that. I do remember him helping me to bed that night but not much else. The next morning, he teased me and said that if I had one more cocktail, he probably would have had to nickname me “Ralphie”. Whoops! I guess I had a tad too much. Ahh, Christmas vacations. Love ’em, right?

Anyway, I sort of remember sounding (even to myself!) like the woman in Miracle on 34th Street, when she was tipsy and shouting into the upside-down telephone, “ Helloooo!” And, “We’d love to have Santa Claus come and stay with us. I think it would be simply charming!” If you recall, Mr. Shellhammer had revealed to Mrs. Walker, about Mrs. Shellhammer, “I made the martinis triple-strength…and she feels wonderful.” Haha!
